About the Honor Flight:
This special honor flight marks the 76th anniversary of Female Veterans Day.
In 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed a bill into law allowing women to serve as regular members of the armed forces. During World War II, over 150,000 women served in the Navy and Army Corps.
Before this law, women could only serve in times of war, with the exception of nurses.
Today, more than 46,000 women are part of Michigan’s veteran population, but only one percent have participated in an honor flight.
