Peshawbestown Dancers and Singers

The Peshawbestown Dancers and Singers will present Stories and Reflections from Gichigami, a cultural presentation that shares their community’s relationships with food through Anishinaabe songs and dances. The group comprises families that reside on the Grand Traverse Band Indian Reservation in Peshawbestown, Michigan, their ancestral homelands. These families will share what has been handed down to them for generations about Indigenous foodways. A key concept is how food is medicine that fuels our mind, body, and spirit. Food comes from the land, and eating food from the land reminds us who we are and where we come from. Knowing who we are and where we come from keeps our spirit strong.
